TECHNOLOGY
OVERVIEW: Sometimes referred to as high speed imaging or slow motion cameras, these cameras capture a single image on a frame of video and then advance to the next frame. The framing rate (fps-frames per second) determines how many opportunities the user has to view the event during the event cycle. The shutter speed is independently set and determines the “stop motion” capability of the camera. The faster the shutter, the less blur will be seen in the individual images (frames). The maximum duration of the captured event is limited to the memory (record time) capability of the camera. Since most high-speed events are over within a fraction of a second, a few seconds of memory are usually sufficient. In general, camera prices increase as the amount of onboard memory, framing rate and resolution capabilities increase.
