Ultra Light Sensitive High Speed Cameras were Instrumental in Visualizing Air Flow at Research Lab.
The Challenge:
Two color and two monochrome cameras were needed in this lab to tackle a broad range of projects from fluid mechanics to vortex dynamics and flow control. Many of these applications require frame rates in excess of 125,000 frames per second (fps). Most cameras become very light and resolution starved when approaching these high speeds. With multiple cameras, lenses, lighting, and cabling, all pointing to one target… a test area can get very cramped.
Product Needed:
The Photron Mini AX200 was the solution this University lab needed. It’s small footprint allowed multiple cameras to fit in a single space at once. It also excelled in light sensitivity which allowed higher frame rates, faster shutters/ exposures, and better depth of field to be achieved.
Why MCT:
MCT has the broadest range of high speed video cameras in the world, so a technology fit was not a question in this case. It was MCT’s experience with the manufacturer (since 2001), familiarity with the products, pre-sale support, and attractive pricing that forced NC State to choose MCT for this lab.
