MCT Delivers a 2 Million Frame Per Second Camera to Slow Down Some of the Fastest Moving Animals in the World.
The Challenge:
The Mantis Shrimp has a club like arm it uses to break the shell of it’s food source; typically a crab. The force applied to the victim is equivalent to the power of a .22 caliber bullet. Finding a high speed camera that was fast enough to capture the event and eliminate blur, but was also light sensitive enough to see under water and through the depths of a large tank would be difficult.
Product Needed:
The Photron SAZ checked all the boxes for this customer. Speed, resolution, light sensitivity, and reliability/ familiarity of the camera manufacturer.
Why MCT:
The customer had prior experience with Photron (from George Lauder’s lab at Harvard), so it was logical to approach the Photron supplier for Duke University when she moved. But it was MCT’s support and true interest in the customers success that kept the relationship moving forward.
